SWE Walking Weekend

Would you like to:

  • Improve your map reading skills and gain the confidence to take your girls out walking, either locally or whilst away on camp or holiday?

  • Share ideas for walking activities with other leaders?

  • Find out about GPS and Geocaching?

  • Find out more about the Girlguiding Walking Scheme?

  • Work towards gaining a Level 1 Walking Qualification?

  • Complete a logbook walk towards your Level 1 Walking Qualification?

  • Enjoy a walk for pleasure in the Gloucestershire Countryside?

If the answer to any of the above is ‘Yes’, then come and join members from across South West England for the Level 1 Walking Weekend in the Gloucestershire countryside. The weekend is open to adult and Senior Section members over 18 from the Region.

New Safe Space Requirements

As you may know, Girlguiding have updated their requirements around the Safe Space trainings. Details can be found on their website here. This is also where you find the e-learning for all Volunteers.

If you are a Leader in Training, this flow chart clarifies what Safe Space training you are expected to complete, and when (please click to see full file).

Pam Robotham

Pam Robotham, former County Commissioner for Royal Berkshire, sadly passed away on 11th January 2018.

She was a lawyer and was well respected by all who knew her. She had been Swan Division Commissioner, after Swan came into Berkshire from Buckinghamshire when the County Boundaries changed. She was County Commissioner from 1980 to 1989.

Here she is pictured in 2005 with other Commissioners.

We wish her family and friends the very best at this time.

Bronze Duke of Edinburgh

Are you aged 14-24, involved in Girlguiding and want to do your Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award? We’re running training for the Expedition and will support you completing the other 3 sections – Physical, Skill and Volunteering – including using eDofE.

You’ll need to attend all the training days, 1 practise expedition and the final assessed expedition to complete the Expedition section.

If you're interested in taking part, you can see more information (including the training dates) here and download the consent form here. If you haven't yet registered to complete the DofE, you can download this registration form to send off.

You can contact the County DofE team with any questions by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

We look forward to seeing lots of our young members starting the award!

Introduction to DofE

On 24th February, we'll be hosting an Introduction to Duke of Edinburgh course. The session is open to all members of Girlguiding who want to know what the DofE award is all about and who are interested in joining as a participant or as an adult volunteer.
