Level 2 Walking Weekend, September

If you would like to extend your existing walking skills, learn how to lead groups safely in open country, and work towards gaining a Girlguiding walking qualification, sign up for the level 2 walking weekend taking place in September!

It's aimed at adult and senior section members aged 18+, and will be running on 22nd - 24th September on Dartmoor.

There is also a level 2 assessment course for those who have completed the training course, as well an informal leisure walking weekend.

This is a region-level training being run by South West England and London & South East England regions, so it's also a great opportunity to meet new people! There are also leadership and training grants available for the level 2 training and assessment courses.

Well done to 1st Cold Ash Guides and 1st Cold Ash Rangers who raised £180 for the Venture Force Foundation in one evening!

They invited their friends and family to buy cake, drink tea and take part in a raffle in aid of the county's chosen charity. They even had another local Guide leader, Hannah, come to visit and tell everyone about the charity's work.

Find out more about the Venture Force Foundation, and how your group can support them, here.

Residential volunteering opportunities this summer

Looking for a residential this summer that will also make a difference?

Then have a look at these opportunities to help people attend two different events over the upcoming months.

The Away From It All holiday in Sidmouth provides time away for disadvantaged families - find out more here.

The residential at Sayers Croft, Ewhurst, Surrey is for Girlguiding members with disabilities - information here.

Both opportunities will provide Queen’s Guides and Duke of Edinburgh gold candidates with the residential experience section of their awards. But the opportunity to help at a holiday for adult Guiding members with disabilities is open to anyone – not just Queen’s Guides and DoE candidates.

Windsor Brownies Meet Search and Rescue Dogs

2nd Windsor Brownies and visitors had a fun evening with Pepsi and Evie from the Berkshire Lowland Search and Rescue Dogs at their recent meeting. They learnt all about how the dogs look for missing people with both dogs expertly demonstrating their skills by finding Snowy Owl hidden in the woods and our new Leader in Training, Carolyn, in the garden!

Mark and Steve, the two handlers, were presented with a cheque for £220 at the end of the evening, which the Brownies had raised by holding a Bring 'n' Buy sale at their meeting, including a tombola stall and filling Smartie tubes with small change.
