Boating in Berkshire

Boating is becoming more popular but sadly the weather during 2013 did not lend itself to boating activities and although they had been planned many had to be cancelled.

With the London Olympics including the sport of canoeing more were inspired to have a go, sadly as many of the planned session were cancelled due to river flow the girls will be trying canoeing in 2013 instead.

Falcon Adam has been out and about many times over the summer. This year the boat has been used mainly by Guides and Brownies since April; though to the end of October.

The idea of Falcon Adam is not only to give the children the opportunity to get afloat but to drive the boat as well.
The Falcon Adam is a 70’ narrowboat with a full kitchen, two bathrooms, a seating/dining area and sleeps up to 12. It is easily accessible from the M4/A4.

This year more members of the Guide Association took and passed their skipper qualifications.

The Trust also ran a weekend for leaders so they could experience a weekend afloat. As a result several bookings for weekends on the boat were taken.

This year over 200 Guides and Brownies in Berkshire went canoeing many through Archilies based in Caversham, Reading.

Canoe England continues to develop its youth programme and has an excellent Paddle Power series of events which are for all groups of children including guides and Brownies.

All the National Governing Bodies for watersports hold regular courses to enable Guides, Leaders and others to gain experience and qualifications in their particular waterspsort.
