Duke of Edinburgh Report

Since the 1st of January 2013 there has been a marked increase in the number of Guides registering to do their DofE Award with Girlguiding in Berkshire. Twenty one guides have applied to do their Bronze Award and a further fourteen have just submitted their registration forms. Two Guides have applied to do their Silver Award and we have received our first applications for the Gold Award.

In total we currently have fifty two registered participants, a further nineteen are in the process of being registered. There are nine Guide and Senior Section Groups in Berkshire running the DofE and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the leaders involved for their hard work throughout the year.

Congratulations go to two Guides from Woodley Senior Section and three Guides from 3rd Slough Guides who completed their Bronze Award this year. Congratulations also to the four Guides from 3rd Finchampstead Guides who completed their Bronze Award under Wokingham Borough Councils DofE Licence.

Ascot and Bracknell North Senior Section undertook their practice expedition in West Berkshire, camping at Thirtover Place and their assessed in the North Chilterns camping in the field behind  Ellesborough Guide Centre.

Maidenhead Ranger & Senior Section Unit undertook their Bronze assessed expedition in the Chilterns, camping at Hurley Lock.

In November of this year the DofE launched their new look Welcome Pack, which contains a participants handbook, assessor guidance booklet, merchandise leaflet, welcome letter and the new DofE Reward Card.

The cost of registering for the DofE has increased this year, for Bronze and Silver it is £15.00 and for Gold £22.00, this covers the cost of the Welcome Pack and web page on eDofE.
